Today marks the 12th anniversary of Christopher 'Notorious B.I.G.' Wallace's death. I remember when I heard the news. Ms. Hollywood called me early that Sunday morning yelling into the phone that he was shot and didn't make it. I was shocked and just sat there emotionless in disbelief. I felt like I had lost a family member. Being from Brooklyn - Biggie was truly the King of New York. I can tell you where I was, what I had on, who I was with every time I heard a new Biggie song. We were in high school when BIG and Bad Boy were on top of the world. We walked around quoting BIG and Junior M.A.F.I.A., playing Faith's first album back to back. Shit, even 112's Cupid was our theme song for our senior prom. And I know I mentioned in an earlier post that Ms. Hollywood, my other homegirl Parker and I thought we were the group Total back in high school. Lol! We were seniors at the time of his death and not only was it the end of the Bad Boy era but the end of our childhood. We were graduating, going off to college, and becoming 'adults'. I miss Notorious B.I.G. and I miss high school. I miss the Bad Boy era and I miss New York holding it down in the music industry. I miss our innocence. The irony of it all is that we couldn't wait to leave all that behind, grow up and run into the 'real world'. I got tears in my eyes writing this as I'm humming to myself 'Can it be that it was all so simple then'? So I'm dedicating our old school vid pick to the King of NY, our fellow Brooklynite, the late great Notorious B.I.G. I was going to do something he did on his own but I wanted to take it waaaay back to the first time I heard of him. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
RIP Christopher Wallace. You are truly missed.
Sidebar - can anyone tell me what the hell Diddy (or Puffy back then) was saying in this song?? I tried to google it but I think even they couldn't understand it. Biggie said it best with his last line of his verse 'Lawd mi caan tek it nuh more!' Lol!
